About Julian Dicks

altFootball Premiership legend Julian Dicks and his corporate team are now offering their support to local junior football leagues throughout the UK. With the passion that took him to the top of his profession, Julian is now 'giving something back' to the beautiful game.

Julian Andrew Dicks, (born August 8th, 1968).

Julian played left-back for West Ham Utd (twice), Liverpool and Birmingham. He was known as a hard man (his nickname was 'The Terminator') and tough tackler and was a regular penalty taker. He was voted West Ham's player of the year four times during his time at the club.

A career starting at Birmingham in 1985 before West Ham Utd paid £300,000 for their future captain in 1988. A fans' favourite, Liverpool manager Graeme Souness bought Julian in 1993 in a deal of over £2,000,000 that also saw David Burrows and Mike Marsh move the other way. The move didn't work out and Harry Redknapp jumped at the chance to bring him back to his beloved West Ham after one season at Liverpool.

In spite of that Julian Dicks has the honour of being the last Liverpool player to score in front of the standing Spion Kop, in 1993.

On re-signing, Julian played a major part in helping to keep West Ham in the Premier League in 1994-95 and again in 1996-97, including scoring twice in a pulsating London derby against Spurs at The Boleyn Ground that West Ham won 4-3. In 1995-96 he was the club's joint top Premier League scorer with 10 goals as they finished 10th - their highest final position since 1986.

Retiring in 1996 after injury problems, Julian took up golf and turned professional, however the same knee injury that ended his football career could not take the strain of being a golf pro either, again forcing early retirement.

13 years on Julian continues to be a cult-hero at West Ham Utd F.C, and is managing Grays Athletic F.C in the Blue Square Conference aswell as founding the Julian Dicks Junior Football Alliance.
